A recent poll conducted for the Heritage Foundation by RMG Research Inc. shed light on the priorities of swing voters in key battleground states. The survey of 1,000 likely swing-state voters revealed a strong sentiment favoring a focus on stopping the ongoing border crisis over allocating more funds to Ukraine.
A significant majority of respondents, 50 percent, emphasized the importance of “securing the border” over “providing funding for Ukraine.” This sentiment underscores a prevailing concern among swing voters regarding the U.S. southern border and the need for effective measures to address the influx of illegal immigration.
When asked about the best approach for U.S. policy, a majority of swing-vote respondents, 54 percent, advocated for allocating more resources to secure the U.S. border compared to helping Ukraine. This preference reflects a desire for prioritizing domestic issues that directly impact American citizens.
Moreover, the poll revealed widespread opposition to increasing taxpayer dollars sent to Ukraine. A significant 56 percent of respondents expressed that the amount allocated to Ukraine in 2022, amounting to $113 billion, is already too much. This sentiment indicates a reluctance among swing-state voters to further escalate financial commitments abroad.
Notably, the survey highlighted strong disapproval toward congressional efforts focusing solely on funding for Ukraine without addressing border security concerns. A substantial 75 percent of respondents opposed proposals that prioritize additional funds for Ukraine while neglecting measures to secure the U.S. border.
Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts emphasized the frustration felt by everyday Americans regarding what is perceived as excessive and unchecked spending on foreign aid, particularly for Ukraine. The polling data reflects a desire among moderate voters in battleground states to redirect attention and resources toward addressing domestic challenges, such as border security.
