In October 2021, Nancy Pelosi wanted to push the trillion-dollar infrastructure bill through separately to score a win for House Democrats. Progressives, however, demanded it be tied to the larger Green New Deal bill, initially a $6 trillion proposition, whittled down to $3.5 trillion by then.
Biden was supposed to rally House Democrats to vote on the infrastructure bill separately. Instead, he fumbled spectacularly, contradicting Pelosi and confusing everyone. Despite numerous opportunities to push for the infrastructure bill, Biden waffled or failed to act altogether. Eventually, Pelosi managed to get her separate vote on the infrastructure bill a week later, only for Biden to drag his feet on signing it, seemingly waiting for a prime photo op. At the time, these events seemed bizarre, but with the WSJ’s recent revelations, it all clicks into place. It wasn’t just political incompetence—it was cognitive decline. And every Democrat in the caucus, particularly Pelosi, was well aware.
Now, they’re all scrambling, trying to shift the blame onto White House staffers and the Biden family for hiding the president’s deteriorating mental state.
