For years, the LGBTQ movement pushed the narrative that gay people were “just like you,” aiming for acceptance in wider society. But once that acceptance was largely achieved, the Rainbow Mafia quickly shifted into overdrive, demanding that every facet of our lives now caters to their Pride agenda. The travel industry, of course, was no exception. These days, you can’t visit a travel website without being bombarded with a special section dedicated to LGBTQ travel tips. One has to wonder: if gay people are really “just like us,” as they’ve long insisted, why do they need special instructions to book a hotel or make a dinner reservation?
Florida’s tourism industry seems to have figured out what many of us were thinking. They’ve quietly removed the “LGBTQ travel” page from their tourism website, a move that has predictably sent the left into a tailspin.
The Associated Press reports that popular Florida destinations for LGBTQ tourists like Key West, Fort Lauderdale, Wilton Manors, and St. Petersburg were shocked to discover that the page had disappeared “sometime in the past few months.” The fact that it took so long for anyone to notice is telling in itself. But as soon as it was discovered, the blame was immediately placed on the left’s favorite boogeyman: Governor Ron DeSantis.
AP quotes business owners lamenting that this is just the latest step in what they claim is Florida’s attempt to “erase the LGBTQ+ community.” The usual litany of complaints follows, citing DeSantis’s support for bills protecting children from inappropriate content in schools and banning so-called “gender-affirming care” for minors. Let’s be honest here: protecting kids and taking down a page from a website isn’t “erasing” anyone. But that hasn’t stopped the left from wringing their hands over it.
What’s even more amusing is that the AP seems genuinely surprised that Florida made this move “quietly.” Were they expecting a press release? “Attention everyone, we’ve removed the LGBTQ page from our tourism site. Cue the outrage!” The reality is, Florida’s tourism officials probably realized that catering to a specific group at the expense of others wasn’t necessary. They’re choosing to promote travel for everyone, without the need for special treatment.
In the end, removing this page isn’t going to stop anyone, except maybe the most radical activists, from visiting Florida. The state’s beaches, warm weather, and countless activities will continue to attract people of all orientations. The tourism industry knows this, and that’s why they’re comfortable moving forward without the pandering. It’s a common-sense decision, but of course, that’s what drives the left crazy.
