The latest data from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is downright shocking. According to stats released this week, more than 13,000 noncitizens convicted of homicide and over 15,000 convicted of sexual assault have been released right here in the United States. Let that sink in for a second. We’re talking about individuals with violent criminal records walking freely among us, thanks to policies that no sane, functioning society should tolerate.
These staggering numbers were handed over to Republican Rep. Tony Gonzales of Texas, who understandably expressed his outrage. The data reveals that there are around 7 million migrants on the “non-detained docket,” meaning they’re going through deportation proceedings but haven’t actually been detained yet. Among them, over 425,000 have already been convicted of crimes, and another 222,000 have pending criminal charges. Let’s not forget the 15,000 with sexual assault convictions and nearly 2,000 facing homicide charges. And we’re supposed to feel safe?
As of July 2024, ICE confirmed that there are more than 662,000 noncitizens with criminal records on their national docket, including over 13,000 murderers. Yes, murderers. Rep. Gonzales rightly stated, “Americans deserve to be safe in our own communities.” Well, that’s certainly not happening with these numbers, and the blame game has already started.
ICE didn’t shy away from pointing fingers, blaming sanctuary city policies for the mess. They argue that these sanctuary policies are preventing federal immigration officials from detaining dangerous criminals, often leaving communities to suffer the consequences. Sanctuary policies might sound like they’re about protecting immigrants, but in reality, they end up shielding violent criminals who then turn around and victimize the very people these policies claim to protect.
House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green didn’t hold back, either. He placed the blame squarely on the Biden-Harris administration, calling out their reckless border policies. According to Green, DHS law enforcement has essentially been told to mass-release illegal aliens, even those with criminal convictions or pending serious charges. It’s no wonder these dangerous individuals are now scattered across every city and state in the country. Green’s question hits home: How many more Americans need to suffer or die before this administration starts taking the law seriously?
The term “noncitizens” in this report includes both migrants who are here legally and those who entered the country illegally. Either way, the fact that these dangerous individuals are allowed to roam free is nothing short of madness. A well-functioning society doesn’t tolerate this kind of lawlessness, yet here we are, watching it unfold.
