Communities across the United States are grappling with the challenges of accommodating, supporting, and providing essential services to millions of illegal immigrants who have been apprehended and released into the country under President Joe Biden’s administration. Meanwhile, left-wing nonprofit organizations tasked with serving migrants are witnessing significant financial gains.
A recent investigation conducted by the Free Press sheds light on three prominent nonprofit organizations that receive payments from the Biden administration for migrant services. The examination revealed that these organizations have experienced a more than threefold increase in revenue since 2018, with each CEO earning over $500,000 annually.
For instance, Global Refuge’s revenue surged from $50 million in 2018 to over $200 million in 2022. The organization’s CEO, Krish O’Mara Vignarajah, saw her salary rise from $244,000 to $520,000 during the same period. Another nonprofit group, Endeavors, received over $1 billion in 2022, allocating substantial funds for various expenses such as music therapy, consulting services, conferences, and lobbying.
Southwest Key Programs, despite past controversies regarding executive self-dealing, was awarded almost $800 million in 2022, with over $1 million directed to its CEO. These nonprofit organizations operate under the Department of Health and Human Services’s Unaccompanied Children Program, which is responsible for providing housing, education, and other services to unaccompanied migrant children.
Under the leadership of HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra, the Unaccompanied Children Program has faced challenges related to fraud and mismanagement. Instances of pressure to expedite the discharge of children to sponsors have been reported, raising concerns about ethical practices within the program.
The profiteering observed within these nonprofit groups is just one facet of a larger issue. The Biden administration’s expansive spending across various federal programs, including those managed by far-left nonprofit organizations, has drawn scrutiny regarding oversight and accountability.
President Biden’s past statements expressing openness to accommodating millions of migrants contrast sharply with the financial burdens and logistical complexities faced by communities and service providers. The call for congressional intervention to address the challenges posed by the border crisis and associated expenditures is becoming increasingly urgent.
