CNN’s Senior Data Reporter, Harry Enten, recently highlighted a shocking shift in Black voters’ support for former President Donald Trump, and it’s turning heads. The Democrats’ long-standing dominance over minority voters, particularly Black Americans, seems to be on shaky ground. In fact, the numbers are looking so dire for the left that even former President Obama has been making desperate pleas for Black voters to rally behind Kamala Harris, acknowledging that their support is starting to slip.
Obama recently admitted that the enthusiasm and turnout he enjoyed during his own campaigns simply isn’t there for Harris. He sounded the alarm, trying to rally Black Americans to back Harris, which is probably the most blatant sign yet that the Democrats are sweating. Enten’s data shows Trump making historic gains among Black voters—something the left just doesn’t want to talk about. According to Enten, Trump is performing better with Black voters than any Republican has since 1960. That’s right—Democrats are losing their grip, especially among younger Black men.
When you look at the numbers, it’s clear why Democrats are in panic mode. Back in 2012, Obama won Black men under 45 by a whopping 81 points. Fast forward to Hillary Clinton in 2016, and that lead shrunk to 63. Then came Biden, barely holding on with a 53-point margin. Now, Kamala Harris is limping along with just a 41-point lead—a stark decline. Obama’s recent attempt to salvage Harris’s campaign by addressing young Black men in Pennsylvania underscores that this isn’t just a Kamala problem. This is a trend, and Harris is just the latest Democrat to be caught in its wake as young Black men start moving toward the GOP.
Enten didn’t just focus on younger voters either. Black men overall are following a similar trend. Although the drop-off isn’t as steep as it is with younger men, it’s still significant. Obama won Black men by an 85-point margin in his glory days, but Clinton and Biden could only manage 71 and 69 points, respectively. Now, Harris is hanging on by just 54 points. While Democrats are still winning Black men overall, the margin is shrinking faster than they’d like to admit, especially when compared to the Obama years.
And just when you think it couldn’t get worse for Harris, Enten also pointed out that her performance with Black women isn’t exactly stellar either. Although she’s doing better with Black women than with Black men, she’s still underperforming. Obama and Clinton both won Black women by 93 points, while Biden’s margin dropped to 85. Harris, the first Black woman on a presidential ticket, is only up by 71 points, which is the worst showing for a Democratic candidate since 1960. Not exactly the historic first the Democrats were hoping for.
