DOJ Refuses to Reveal How Many Undercover Agents Were at J6

It looks like we won’t be getting the full story on the number of federal assets present at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, at least not before the November elections. DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz confirmed during a recent Congressional hearing that this information won’t be disclosed until after the election. This delay seems pretty convenient for some folks, doesn’t it? Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) expressed his frustration, saying he’s been “stonewalled” for years by both Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray when trying to get answers about the federal assets, including confidential human sources, that might have been mixed in with the crowd that day.

During the hearing, Massie tried to push Horowitz for some clarity on just how many of these “confidential human sources” were operating on Capitol grounds during the riot. Horowitz, unsurprisingly, wasn’t giving much away. He assured Massie that the information would be included in his long-awaited report on January 6, which has been dragging on since it was commissioned shortly after the events of that day. When Massie pressed further—asking if there were more than 100 federal assets involved—Horowitz dodged, saying he couldn’t comment because the report is still in draft form and hasn’t undergone classification review.

And here’s the kicker: Horowitz admitted that the report probably won’t be ready before the election. So, voters will head to the polls still in the dark about just how many federal operatives were mixed in with the crowd that day. Convenient timing for those who don’t want too many uncomfortable questions raised before November, don’t you think?

It’s not like we haven’t heard hints about federal involvement before. Former Capitol Hill Police Chief Steven Sund has already said there was a “fair amount” of law enforcement in the crowd on January 6, including operatives from Homeland Security Investigations. But instead of getting clear answers, we’re left with more delays and more questions. The fact that voters won’t know the full story until after they cast their ballots raises some serious concerns about transparency.

All in all, it’s yet another example of how information that could sway public opinion is kept under wraps just long enough to avoid impacting an election. Whether the full details will come out eventually remains to be seen, but for now, it looks like voters are being left in the dark on some pretty crucial information.
