Tesla CEO and X/Twitter owner Elon Musk has reportedly made a significant donation to a pro-Trump Super PAC, aiming to boost former President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign.
Sources familiar with the matter told Bloomberg that Musk donated a “sizeable amount” to America PAC, a Super PAC described as the “biggest spender on direct voter contacts,” having spent around $15.8 million so far. This group works behind the scenes to enhance Trump’s campaign efforts on the ground. Musk’s donation is expected to be a major setback for President Joe Biden and the Democrat Party, which is already grappling with internal conflicts about Biden’s political future.
Musk’s donation aligns with his growing criticism of Biden and his administration’s policies. He has previously mentioned that Trump called him “out of the blue for no reason.” In a May 2023 interview on CNBC, Musk labeled the suppression of the Hunter Biden laptop story as “election interference.”
Despite their past differences, Musk restored Trump’s account on X, formerly known as Twitter, and predicted a “landslide victory” for Trump if he were to be handcuffed and arrested. This came after Trump was found guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records related to payments made to adult entertainment star Stormy Daniels, prompting Musk to warn that “anyone is at risk” if a former president can be “criminally convicted over such a trivial matter.”
Interestingly, some of Trump’s proposed policies could affect Tesla. Trump has criticized Biden’s electric vehicle (EV) rule, claiming it would “kill” the Michigan economy and vowing to end the EV mandate. Following the June 27 presidential debate between Trump and Biden, Musk described both candidates as “talking puppets,” highlighting his discontent with the current political landscape.
