Exposed: Left Massively Lied About Cost of Deportation

Democrats have long peddled the narrative that deporting illegal immigrants would be an astronomical financial burden, supposedly costing more than allowing them to remain and benefit from government assistance. Unsurprisingly, this is another one of their habitual miscalculations. The claim, often repeated with the fervor of gospel, doesn’t stand up to scrutiny. In fact, the numbers suggest it’s not only manageable but potentially necessary to restore order to immigration policy.

Recently, an American Immigration Council (AIC) representative told the Senate Judiciary Committee that the cost of deporting all illegal immigrants could exceed $316 billion. Naturally, Sen. Dick Durbin was quick to parrot this figure as gospel. But even the AIC admitted this was a conservative estimate. However, John Lott Jr., formerly of the Crime Prevention Research Center, dismantled this argument, pointing out that the supposed price tag is wildly inflated—by as much as sevenfold. According to Lott, if historical data on deportations over the last decade is any guide, skepticism toward the Democrats’ numbers isn’t just warranted; it’s essential.

Lott also underscored that much of the inflated cost comes from including padded numbers for detention and legal processes while conveniently ignoring the hefty price of allowing illegal immigrants to stay. Government subsidies for food, housing, and other benefits quietly eat away at taxpayers’ wallets, making the AIC’s estimates far from accurate. By factoring in the actual costs of providing these services to those here illegally, the expense of deportation becomes far less daunting. It’s a critical oversight, but one that fits neatly with the Democrats’ habit of selective arithmetic.

Former President Donald Trump and his border czar, Tom Homan, were characteristically blunt on the matter. For Trump, it isn’t about the price tag but about principle and safety. Whether dealing with criminal offenders or drug lords, the policy is simple: they don’t belong here, and no financial gymnastics should prevent their removal. Homan echoed this, emphasizing that the cost—whatever it might be—should not deter the government from doing its job. For those concerned with law and order, this stance isn’t just refreshing; it’s overdue.

At the heart of the debate lies a fundamental question: What is the real cost of inaction? Allowing unchecked illegal immigration continues to drain resources and undermine the integrity of the system. The inflated estimates from groups like the AIC serve to obscure the issue rather than clarify it. When the actual costs of deportation are weighed against the long-term savings and the benefits of restoring the rule of law, the supposed financial burden begins to look more like a smokescreen for political agendas than an insurmountable obstacle.
