Hunter Biden’s recent felony conviction on three gun charges in Delaware allows the left to claim “no one is above the law,” while conveniently distracting from the far more serious allegations against both him and his father.
The case that led to Hunter’s conviction on Tuesday — involving an illegal gun purchase in 2018 — serves as a smokescreen, diverting attention from the significant corruption involving the Biden family. These serious allegations, brought to light by journalists and the House Oversight Committee, go far beyond a mere gun charge in their potential impact on society.
Democrats and their media allies are now rushing to lump all of Hunter’s legal troubles into this single case. They insinuate that with this conviction, justice has been served, conveniently ignoring the much deeper issues at play. They want the public to believe that this is a triumph of the American justice system, especially in the wake of Donald Trump’s politically charged indictments.
“This verdict certainly flies in the face of everything that the former president has been pushing, trying to undermine the legal and the justice system,” ABC News’ Rachel Scott said on Tuesday. “And we know President Biden has come out very strongly against that. And it was notable that he told you just days ago that he would respect the outcome of this verdict regardless of what happens.”
Immediately following the verdict, Democratic activists in the media proclaimed it a “really good day for the American system,” asserting that “the law applies to everybody,” and hailing Joe Biden as the “living embodiment of the rule of law.” Chuck Todd on MSNBC even suggested, “There’s not many countries in the world where the son or daughter of said country would get prosecuted in their judicial system. This is how different America is.”
Andrew Weissmann, a former Mueller team member and MSNBC pundit, added, “I’m more interested in what [the case] tells us about the rule of law in this country…the son of the sitting president was pretty quickly tried, he was given due process and he was found guilty, and you have the current president, the father of the defendant, making it absolutely clear that he is not pardoning him…”
However, these proclamations ignore the significant unresolved issues. They want us to forget about Hunter Biden’s arrangements for his father to meet with his foreign clients, such as those from Ukraine and China, without registering as a foreign agent. They downplay the incriminating email suggesting Hunter would “hold 10% for the Big Guy” in a deal with CEFC China Energy Co. And they dismiss the millions of dollars the Biden family has reportedly raked in under dubious circumstances.
Instead, the narrative is now being framed around Hunter’s struggle with addiction, turning the court decision into a story of personal redemption. ABC News described it as “a personal tragedy, a family tragedy…so many American families understand that. And now the first family has gone through it as well.” This portrayal serves to humanize Hunter while deflecting from the broader implications of his actions.
President Biden is clearly leaning into this narrative: “So many families who have had loved ones battle addiction understand the feeling of pride seeing someone you love come out the other side and be so strong and resilient in recovery… Jill and I will always be there for Hunter and the rest of our family with our love and support. Nothing will ever change that.”
In essence, this case has become a perfect tool for Democrats. It provides them with a felony conviction to claim the law is applied equally, especially in light of Trump’s legal battles, while making it appear as though Hunter Biden has been held accountable, leaving Joe Biden untouched. It’s a strategic play that obscures the deeper, more troubling issues at the heart of the Biden family’s activities.
