It looks like the momentum is starting to shift in Donald Trump’s favor, and with less than three weeks left until Election Day, the timing couldn’t be better. According to The Hill’s Amie Parnes, Trump’s campaign may be peaking just as voters in swing states are heading to the polls. It seems the final weeks of this election are going to be a nail-biter, but things are looking up for Trump in the battleground states where it counts.
Parnes pointed out some of the recent polling trends that back up her claim. In states like Wisconsin and Michigan, Kamala Harris’s slim lead has evaporated, and Trump is either tied or slightly ahead. Pennsylvania is also too close to call now, with both candidates locked in a dead heat. It’s hard to ignore the shift, especially when even mainstream media figures like Steve Kornacki from NBC are acknowledging that Harris’s earlier lead has “completely reversed.” That kind of shift, especially in a race this close, has Democrats rightfully nervous.
And nervous they are. Some Democrat strategists are openly panicking, with one telling The Hill that the campaign should be showing signs of upward momentum by now, but instead, they’re flatlining or losing ground. Another Democrat strategist didn’t hold back, calling the situation “terrifying.” It’s not the kind of confidence you want to hear from a campaign that was supposed to coast to victory, but here we are.
Of course, the Harris camp is doing its best to downplay the situation. David Plouffe, a senior adviser to Harris, dismissed the polling data, calling most of it garbage and saying people should ignore polls showing either candidate with a strong lead. Plouffe insists the race is close, within the margin of error, which is his way of saying, “we’re sweating, but we’re not showing it.”
Even though Trump is leading in the RealClearPolitics polling average, Republicans know he’s not out of the woods yet. He’s still up against the usual suspects—media bias, the administrative state, and Democrat-run swing states—and all the weight of the Obama-Clinton establishment. So, while the momentum may be on his side for now, there’s no room for complacency. It’s going to be a battle right up to the finish line.
