According to The Daily Mail, there is a clandestine plan underway to replace President Joe Biden as the Democrat incumbent for the 2024 presidential election. This alleged strategy stems from growing concerns among Democrat insiders that Biden’s rapidly declining health could jeopardize the entire party’s prospects in November.
In recent weeks, questions about Biden’s fitness for office have been mounting, fueled by a series of widely publicized gaffes. His poll numbers have been steadily dropping, especially compared to the presumed Republican nominee, former President Donald Trump. The situation has sparked fear that Biden’s condition could become a significant liability for the Democrats.
One notable incident highlighting these concerns occurred on the 80th anniversary of D-Day when Biden froze up as French President Emmanuel Macron approached him. This was followed by an unsettling moment on June 15 at a Los Angeles fundraiser, where former President Barack Obama appeared to guide a disoriented Biden off the stage. Just two days later, Biden again seemed out of sorts at a White House Juneteenth celebration, standing frozen with a blank stare until he was led off the podium.
Despite reassurances from White House spokesperson Andrew Bates and a spokesman for Nancy Pelosi that nothing is wrong with Biden’s health, speculation continues to grow. Several officials who recently attended meetings at the White House reportedly told The Wall Street Journal that Biden’s mental faculties were noticeably diminished, further fueling doubts about his viability as a candidate.
A Democrat strategist revealed to The Daily Mail that if Biden performs poorly in his first debate with Trump or if his poll numbers continue to decline, the party’s top leaders might collectively force him to step down. The only individuals with enough influence to do so would be Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, and Chuck Schumer, acting together to persuade Biden to withdraw from the race.
Biden is expected to resist any suggestion of stepping down, insisting on continuing his campaign through Election Day. His supporters are banking on a strong debate performance to boost his standing. Meanwhile, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) plans to host a virtual convention to formally nominate Biden ahead of the actual convention in Chicago, allowing for a more controlled process if the party decides to replace him.
If a decision is made to replace Biden, the new nomination system would enable Democrat Party leaders to discreetly introduce a substitute candidate. A top political consultant told The Daily Mail that the replacement nominee would definitely not be Vice President Kamala Harris, who remains unpopular in the polls. Instead, any announcement of a new candidate would likely require Biden to publicly endorse his own replacement while standing alongside the party’s top leadership. This move would also necessitate convincing Harris to support the new candidate, a challenging task given her stated intention to stay on the ticket.
Despite these plans, any attempt to replace Biden is fraught with risk. Should the newly appointed nominee fail to win the presidency in November, they and their backers would be blamed for the loss, adding another layer of complexity to an already precarious situation for the Democrats.
