Joe Biden’s presidency has been a parade of crises, each one seemingly more chaotic and mishandled than the last. From a baby formula shortage that blindsided families to a supply chain fiasco his administration couldn’t even begin to fix, his tenure has been anything but smooth. Inflation has left working families scrambling, while the border crisis has become an unchecked disaster, bringing with it harrowing stories of sexual abuse, human trafficking, and violence. Perhaps most damning is the fact that nearly half a million children remain missing, likely victims of sex trafficking, while Biden’s lackluster border policies exacerbate the problem. And if that wasn’t enough, his administration has managed to turn a blind eye to another growing catastrophe: homelessness.
According to a report by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, homelessness in the United States has skyrocketed to its highest levels on record. More than 770,000 people are currently without homes, a jaw-dropping 18% increase over the previous year. That marks the largest annual rise since these counts began in 2007. The report highlighted particularly alarming spikes among children and families. While federal officials were quick to point fingers at the national housing crisis, inflation, and the end of pandemic-era aid programs, the most glaring accelerant was the surge of asylum-seeking migrants overwhelming shelter systems nationwide. Yet, in true Biden administration fashion, this critical factor is downplayed to avoid stepping on the toes of their own failed border policies.
Let’s not mince words: the collapse of border security has turned Biden’s America into a nightmare of overburdened shelters and skyrocketing homelessness. While some will blame the “loss of COVID-era protections” as a contributing factor, it’s clear the flood of illegal immigration has overwhelmed the system. Combine that with an administration that has seemingly mastered the art of making Americans poorer, and you’ve got a recipe for disaster. The numbers speak for themselves—a third increase in homelessness over the past two years after decades of relatively stable trends. If this isn’t a wake-up call for the administration, it’s hard to imagine what will be.
And how does Biden respond to this growing crisis? With the same predictable arrogance we’ve come to expect. Officials from his administration trot out pie charts and talking points, hoping to deflect blame while telling Americans they’re wrong to feel the pinch of his policies. It’s this sort of tone-deaf condescension that fuels frustration across the country and drives voters toward candidates like Donald Trump, who at least acknowledge the problems and promise action. Biden, on the other hand, seems content to let his staffers handle it—badly, of course.
If Biden’s presidency has a legacy, it might very well be encapsulated in this homelessness crisis. It’s a perfect storm of incompetence, ideological stubbornness, and outright neglect. From soaring inflation to unmanageable surges at the border, the Biden administration’s inability to tackle the root causes of these issues has left the country in a state of disarray. Maybe it’s time we give him a nickname fitting for his tenure—“Hobo Joe”—because the numbers don’t lie, and neither does the frustration of an increasingly disillusioned nation.
